The Governor provided a comprehensive briefing on the Central Bank's efforts to achieve exchange rate stability by providing foreign currency to banks to meet the needs of importers. She emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination between the Central Bank and commercial banks in achieving the objectives of monetary policy.
The meeting comes as part of efforts to strengthen and activate the Central Bank's policy aimed at achieving exchange rate stability. The Governor noted that the Central Bank's intervention and implementation of its policies had led to a noticeable decline in the exchange rate, emphasizing that foreign currency injections would continue until conditions return to normal. She called on banks to submit their customers' foreign currency financing requests for imports on a daily basis.
The Governor also noted that efforts were underway to establish correspondent banking relationships with the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This would contribute to facilitating and strengthening trade between these countries through the official banking system.
The Governor emphasized that the success of the policies adopted by the Central Bank of Sudan requires a high degree of alignment and coordination between the Central Bank and commercial banks. She stressed the importance of acting responsibly and working with professionalism and transparency to ensure the effectiveness of monetary policies and the achievement of their objectives.
She also highlighted the Central Bank's commitment to addressing all challenges facing the banking sector, while continuing to regularly monitor exchange rate movements, assess their impact, and take the necessary measures to enhance exchange rate stability.
