Press Release
Further to the announcement issued by the Central Bank of Sudan on November 9, 2024, regarding the commencement of the currency exchange process for the SDG 1,000 and SDG 500 banknotes through deposits into bank accounts, the Central Bank of Sudan wishes to reassure citizens in states not currently included in the exchange operations that the Bank takes their needs and circumstances into full consideration and remains committed to ensuring that all citizens, without exception, will be able to exchange their currency in a manner that safeguards their rights and savings.
It should be noted that the postponement of receiving the withdrawn denominations by bank branches in states not currently included in the exchange process is a temporary regulatory measure, designed to ensure the effective implementation of the exchange plan and to guarantee the protection of all citizens’ rights. Accordingly, these denominations will remain valid and legally binding until the exchange process is carried out in those states at a later stage.
The Central Bank of Sudan acknowledges that the challenges faced in some areas do not in any way imply neglect of citizens’ rights. On the contrary, the Bank is committed to implementing the planned exchange process in a way that ensures inclusivity and fairness.
The Central Bank of Sudan affirms that the currency exchange plans will be implemented according to a precise and well-studied timetable, taking into account field and logistical conditions to ensure the success and effectiveness of the process. Any additional steps will be officially announced through the Bank’s official communication channels, along with the issuance of the necessary instructions to facilitate procedures for citizens.
Finally, the Central Bank of Sudan urges all citizens to adhere only to the official directives and guidance issued by the Bank and to avoid relying on unofficial sources.
