A Significant Regional Achievement: Electronic Banking Services (EBS) Accredited as an Authorized Service Bureau for the Global SWIFT Network

In a major strategic step that strengthens Sudan’s position in the regional and international financial sector, the Central Bank of Sudan announces the official accreditation of Electronic Banking Services (EBS) as a Service Bureau for the global SWIFT network for financial messaging and bank transfers.

This official accreditation was granted after the company’s technical and administrative teams successfully completed the rigorous assessment under the SWIFT Shared Infrastructure Programme. EBS has thus become the first SWIFT Service Bureau in Sudan and one of only five companies across the Middle East and Africa to receive this advanced accreditation. This achievement reflects the company’s high-level technical infrastructure, efficient governance and cybersecurity systems, and compliance with the highest international operational standards.

The achievement is the result of the Central Bank of Sudan’s continued guidance and support. The Bank announced its strategic acquisition of EBS on January 15, 2026, with the aim of improving the efficiency and stability of financial services and developing the infrastructure of the national banking sector.

Through the new Service Bureau, Sudanese banks and financial institutions will benefit from several advantages, including:

  • Full compliance with SWIFT’s global security standards.

  • Enhanced cybersecurity and operational resilience across the financial sector.

  • A secure and reliable infrastructure for connecting banks, with the company currently connected to 26 banks within Sudan.

  • Support for digital transformation and financial inclusion efforts, facilitating access to financial services for broader segments of customers.

  • Increased confidence, encouragement of investment, and strengthened Sudan’s position as an active partner in the global financial system.

This global accreditation coincides with a series of record achievements by EBS during the first half of 2026. The company successfully restored the national payment switch and completed comprehensive settlement operations for all banks. It also recorded a remarkable milestone by processing more than 100 million electronic banking transactions, including account-to-account (A2A) transfers, between January and May 2026, demonstrating the efficiency and stability of its operational infrastructure.

EBS and the Central Bank of Sudan reaffirm their full commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence and security, with the aim of providing safe and reliable digital financial services that support the growth and stability of the Sudanese economy and strengthen its leadership within the global financial system.
