Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan Inaugurates the Return of the Financial Intelligence Unit to Its Headquarters in Khartoum

In a step reflecting the return of state institutions and the resumption of their activities from the capital, Ms. Amna Mirghani Hassan Al-Toum, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, accompanied by Mr. Al-Muatasim Abdullah Ahmed, First Deputy Governor, and in the presence of Mr. Ali Khidr Ali Al-Toum, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, inaugurated the headquarters of the Financial Intelligence Unit in Khartoum.

The Unit’s return to Khartoum comes after it continued to perform its duties and functions from the city of Atbara in River Nile State during the war, maintaining the continuity of its operations and its role within the framework of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The Governor and her accompanying delegation inspected the facilities and arrangements completed at the headquarters, which enabled the Unit to return and resume its operations from the capital.

The Governor emphasized the important role played by the Financial Intelligence Unit in protecting the financial system from financial crimes. This role includes implementing measures to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of proliferation of weapons, as well as strengthening national and international cooperation and coordination in combating money laundering and terrorist financing. She also commended the efforts and dedication of the Unit’s employees in restoring its systems and servers.

The inauguration of the headquarters represents an important milestone in the Unit’s journey and sends a message affirming the recovery of state institutions and their continued fulfillment of their responsibilities and activities from Khartoum State.
