Announcement on the Withdrawal of Certain Currency Denominations from Circulation
Pursuant to the provisions of Article (25/3) of the Central Bank of Sudan Act of 2002, and in the public interest and as part of regulating the currency denomination structure in line with current economic conditions, the Central Bank of Sudan hereby announces the following:
The following banknote denominations shall be withdrawn from circulation: 1 Sudanese Pound, 2 Sudanese Pounds, 5 Sudanese Pounds, 10 Sudanese Pounds, 20 Sudanese Pounds, and 50 Sudanese Pounds.
Holders of the denominations withdrawn from circulation, as specified in paragraph (1) above, shall be granted a period of three months from the date of publication of this announcement in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Sudan to exchange these notes in accordance with the regulations determined by the Central Bank of Sudan. The exchange shall be made at face value by depositing the amount into bank accounts at commercial bank branches only, with the exchange period ending at the close of business on July 30, 2026.
These denominations shall remain valid for circulation throughout the period specified in paragraph (2) above. They may also be exchanged at face value by depositing them into bank accounts at commercial bank branches during the same period. Cash exchange shall not be permitted.
Upon expiry of the period specified in paragraph (2) above, these denominations shall cease to be legal tender and shall no longer discharge debts or be accepted in financial and commercial transactions. The Central Bank of Sudan shall preserve the rights of holders of these denominations to receive their face value in states experiencing unsuitable security or banking conditions, as determined by the Central Bank of Sudan.
