Announcement on the Withdrawal of Certain Currency Denominations from Circulation

Pursuant to the provisions of Article (25/3) of the Central Bank of Sudan Act of 2002, and in the public interest and as part of regulating the currency denomination structure in line with current economic conditions, the Central Bank of Sudan hereby announces the following:

  1. The following currency denominations shall be withdrawn from circulation: 1 Pound, 2 Pounds, 5 Pounds, 10 Pounds, 20 Pounds, and 50 Pounds.

  2. Holders of the denominations withdrawn from circulation, as specified in paragraph (1) above, shall be granted a period of three months from the date of publication of this announcement in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Sudan to exchange their holdings in accordance with the regulations determined by the Central Bank of Sudan. The exchange shall be made at face value through deposits into bank accounts at commercial bank branches only, with the exchange period ending at the close of business on July 30, 2026.

  3. These denominations shall remain valid for circulation throughout the period specified in paragraph (2) above. They may also be exchanged at face value through bank deposits at commercial bank branches during the same period. Cash exchange shall not be permitted.

  4. Upon expiry of the period specified in paragraph (2) above, these denominations shall cease to have the status of legal tender and shall no longer be valid for settling obligations or accepted in financial and commercial transactions. The Central Bank of Sudan shall preserve the right of holders of these denominations to receive their face value in states experiencing unsuitable security or banking conditions, as determined by the Central Bank of Sudan.
