Press Release – Central Bank of Sudan
In continuation of the Central Bank of Sudan’s announcement dated 12 April 2026 regarding the commencement of the exchange process for the old 1,000 and 500 pound banknotes through deposit into bank accounts, the Central Bank of Sudan would like to reassure citizens in states currently not included in the exchange process that their needs and circumstances are fully taken into consideration. The Bank remains committed to ensuring that all citizens, without exception, are able to exchange their currency in a manner that preserves their rights and savings.
It is important to note that the temporary suspension of receiving the withdrawn banknote denominations by bank branches in states not currently included in the exchange process is an exceptional regulatory measure aimed at ensuring the proper implementation of the currency exchange plan while safeguarding the rights of all citizens.
Accordingly, these banknotes remain valid and legally acceptable until the exchange process is implemented in those states at a later stage.
The Central Bank of Sudan recognizes that challenges faced in certain regions do not in any way imply neglect of citizens’ rights. On the contrary, the Bank is committed to implementing the exchange plan in a way that ensures inclusiveness and fairness for all.
The Central Bank further confirms that the currency exchange plans will be executed according to a precise and well-studied timetable, taking into account field and logistical conditions to ensure the success and effectiveness of the process. Any further steps will be officially announced through authorized channels, along with necessary instructions to facilitate procedures for citizens.
In conclusion, the Central Bank of Sudan urges all citizens to adhere only to its official directives and to avoid relying on unofficial sources.
